The exhibition presents a segment of recent paintings and video works from the ongoing series Fantastic Landscapes, which currently numbers 123 artworks. Darkness Light Darkness is a record of a performative and painterly practice that is a playful, inquisitive, automative and meditative reflection on land as both the medium and the source of inspiration.
The art of Djordje [George] Stanojevic (1974) is a palimpsest of energy imprints of the natural world. Stanojević creates works by submerging pigment-laden canvases under snow or rain, and ripening them under the sun or in shadows in a period that may last from a single night to up to several years. The decomposition, sedimentation and fermentation of mineral pigments affects the finished work. This process of observation and learning from nature is inseparable from the creative process – forming an unending flow of cycles where light follows darkness.
